Past or future Education: What you need to know when you get to the United States!

Education is another important subject that can be very different from the country you originally come from.

The American Education System is clearly structured and each level has different requirements!

There can be significant differences between the school system in your home country and the system here in the United States.

Germany, for example, has a 3-level system and an option of either completing Level 3 (Gymnasium) to go to College.

They also have the option to drop out of school early (after 9th or 10th grade for example) to start an apprenticeship (Ausbildung).

In the United States, dropping out of school early is not a good idea.

There are barely any apprenticeships options here in the US.

Therefore, if you want to have a good chance in the job or school market, you have to have a High School Diploma/GED.

On another note, if you want to use your education from your home country to apply for jobs or to achieve a higher degree, you need to go through the Evaluation Process.

This makes sure American Schools and employers fully understand your Education and Skill Level.

Things to consider

Some institutions may also require you to take a Toefl or SAT test. That’s how they ensure that you have the language skills needed to graduate from an American School.
